Smoking is a nasty and pernicious habit. It is now well known that smoking can lead to all sorts of health complaints including the possibility of lung cancer, emphysema and a whole host of other ailments all related to or caused by smoking.

Smoking is highly addictive, extremely expensive over time, and offensive to many people. As time goes on more and more smokers are finding themselves ostracised by more and more people as a result of a habit that offends many in the community.

Smokers, whether they smoke cigarettes, cigars, pipes or anything else, are trying to give up smoking in huge numbers, and with good reason.

We’re interested to know about the evidence. After all, there may be good evidence in support of it, we just haven’t seen it. And if there is solid scientific evidence that laser for stopping smoking works we’re happy to publish it here.

And we will publish anything else about laser therapy stop smoking that we find too, pro or con.

So on that theme we thought we’d direct our readers to a few pertinent stories we have found with some digging, all about the efficacy of quit smoking laser therapy.

There are some who maintain that quit smoking laser therapy is a fraud.

According to a report in June 2006 by consumeraffairs.com the public consumer watchdog group “Public Citizen” has asked the FDA to stop 5 companies from promoting their quit smoking laser therapies on the basis that they don’t work.

The 5 companies, which are Freedom Laser Therapy Inc., the Anne Penman Laser Therapy clinics, New Beginnings Laser Therapy, Laser Concept and the Stop Smoking Laser Center are all promoting low power laser therapy as a safe and effective way of quitting smoking.

Consumeraffairs.com claims that this is because there is no evidence that low power laser therapy, or what is called sometimes low power laser acupuncture, has any effect on helping people stop smoking and is not approved by the FDA for use for assisting people to stop smoking.

It is approved by the FDA for marketing for assistance in the relief of pain, but not to assist in quitting smoking.

For more information about this read the consumeraffairs.com story.

Despite this effort some 2 years ago low power laser therapy to stop smoking is still promoted actively as a successful method for quitting smoking, and it seems that there is still no solid scientific evidence that it works to assist people to quit smoking that we have seen.

This does not mean, of course that is doesn’t work to help in quitting smoking, just that there is no evidence that it does that we have seen. So the question remains. Does quit smoking laser therapy really work?

Is there any evidence that quit smoking laser works?

Any medical treatment has to be supported by evidence before it is accepted by mainstream government and authorititative organisations as a solid reliable treatment that should be recommended to the general public. For new drugs, for example, the evidence has to be overwhelming that they work before organisations like the FDA accept their viability.

We have to say that we have not been able to find any solid independent scientific studies to support any conclusion that quit smoking laser therapies work.

Now of course the fact that there is no scientific evidence that they doesn’t prove that they don’t work. There is probably no scientific evidence that they don’t work either. It just means that no one to date has proven successfully in an accepted scientific study that laser treatment to stop smoking works for the majority of people.

And as laser treatment as an anti smoking measure is based on the principles of acupuncture, we should say we have also not seen any evidence that acupuncture works either as a reliable way to stop smoking.

Again, not proof that it doesn’t work, just that we haven’t seen any proof that it does work.

And the fact that we haven’t seen any proof that you can successfully kick your cigarette, or pipe, or cigar habit by laser therapy or acupuncture also doesn’t mean that there isn’t any proof, just that we haven’t seen it. And we should be fair and say that we have looked at a range of sources which also state that there is no scientific proof in support of laser treatment as a stop smoking aid.

So if you know of any studies where this has been rigorously and scientifically tested please let us know. Either studies that support the conclusion that laser treatments for smoking or for that matter acupuncture treatments to stop smoking do work, or don’t work. We’d like to know either way. Use our comments form to tell us about them and be sure to include a link to the study. We’d love to know what scientific studies there are about laser anti smoking treatments, pro or con. So let us, and all our readers know at the Quit Smoking Laser Therapy Guide.

We have been hard pressed to find much, or indeed any, solid evidence about whether laser therapy to quit smoking actually works. However as we have pointed out that doesn’t mean that there is no evidence, just that we haven’t found it.
Notwithstanding we’re not here to tell you laser quit therapy doesn’t work, or does. We’re just here to show you the arguments on either side.

So to be fair we include here a video that shows testimonials from people who have successfully used stop smoking laser treatment. Make up your own mind whether you think that this means it will work for you.

How is it said that quit smoking laser therapy works?

Quit smoking laser therapy has been around for some time. Some claim that laser therapy to stop smoking and kick the cigarettes has been around, and successful, for over 30 years.

The laser therapy for stopping smoking is called low level laser therapy. Low level laser therapy produces a cool laser beam that is used according to the principals of acupuncture.

The laser beam is directed into or onto acupressure points. The intention of doing this is to make the body release endorphins which will, in turn, act to block the cravings associated with nicotine withdrawal, and therefore make it easier to quit smoking because the withdrawals and cravings associated with stopping putting nicotine into the body are lessened or stopped altogether. This is achieved by directing the laser beam onto points where nerve endings are stimulated.

It is said that a relatively small number of treatments is adequate for the majority of smokers to be able to quit. We have even seen claims that only one treatment should be sufficient for most people to allow them to stop smoking successfully. Sessions are usually short, around 30 minutes or so.

It is also claimed that the laser treatment if not at all painful, and non invasive.

Of course the businesses that sell quit smoking laser treatments claim that it has a high rate of success and is medically proven.

We hope that over time this website will become a resource so that ordinary people who want to quit smoking can get some unbiased feedback from people who have actually undergone laser treatment to stop smoking. Both negative and positive.

We don’t know whether or not the treatment works. As we have said before, even if it works it won’t work for everybody, that’s just how giving up smoking is. How many it works for remains to be seen from the feedback you give us, and our readers, right here on the Quit Smoking Laser Therapy Guide.

Are you really giving up smoking if you’re “just having one more cigarette”?

If you’ve tried giving up you’ll know what it’s like.

I’ll just have one more and then I’ll be giving up. OR, I’m at a party so I’m allowed, if I just have one.

OR, perhaps if I just have a puff of hers that will be ok, it will only be a puff.

OR. I’ll cut down to one a day, once I’ve got that mastered then I’ll quit smoking for good.

We think you know the answer to those questions yourself.

If you’re smoking you’re smoking. One, a dozen, a hundred or a puff. You’re smoking if you have any.

What does “just one more” do? It puts off the inevitable, it just puts off the difficulty of quitting smoking. It puts nicotine back into your system and recharges it for another surge of withdrawals when the nicotine starts leaving your system.

Don’t give in to “just one more cigarette”, it’s a good way to stop giving up and start smoking again.

It IS possible to give up smoking successfully.Whether you’re looking to give up smoking by using quit smoking laser therapy, or nicotine patches, or nicotine gum, or any other stop smoking method, you’re not giving up if you’re still smoking. Don’t fool yourself that you are giving up the cigarettes if you have that “one more”.

Keep reading our Quit Smoking Laser Therapy Guide, keep the motivation up, read our article about your reasons for giving up smoking and keep your resolve steely. Select a method of stopping smoking, whether it’s laser therapy for stopping smoking or any other stop smoking therapy, and stick with it.

Lets have a look at smoking addiction and withdrawal and see if we can offer a few tips.

Firstly, you need a powerful reason to quit smoking if you’re a dedicated smoker. Cigarettes are a powerful addiction and they need powerful reasons for quittting to help in the withdrawal battle.

So if you’ve just decided to give up because you think it might be a good thing to do then spend some time sitting quietly thinking about it a little more and work out some powerful reasons why giving up smoking would be a REALLY good thing for you to do.

Do it so that when the withdrawals start to bite, as they will, you have some powerful reasons to stay off the cigarettes just as you have a powerful reason to have just one more.

Perhaps it’s your health. You’ve had a heart attack and your doctor tells you you’re at risk of more. What would happen to your family if you died of a smoking related disease? What about your kids? Your wife or husband?

Or perhaps it’s you. How would your life be if you became incapacitated with a smoking related illness. Spend a little time perhaps looking up the diseases that smoking can cause and picture yourself suffering from one or more of these diseases.

Once you’ve got YOUR powerful reasons in your mind for quitting smoking, and there can be more than one, usually lots, then WRITE THEM DOWN and keep that list on you. Write it a few times and keep it handy in a few places.

And every time you feel like it’s all a bit much and you can’t do it any more, have a look at your list of powerful reasons why you NEED to give up smoking, think about your reasons a little and you might find it just that little bit easier when you need all the help you can get.

Because no matter whether you choose quit smoking laser therapy or some other method of stopping smoking, there will be tough times and you need all the help you can get.

Is changing from cigarettes to cigars a viable alternative to quitting smoking?

Quitting smoking is pretty tough. Really tough for some, and there are those who look for alternatives to stopping smoking, hoping that there is a healthier alternative to quitting smoking that doesn’t actually involve - quitting smoking.

One of these is changing from cigarettes to cigars or a pipe. Here we’ll look at the question is changing from cigarettes to cigars a good alternative to stopping smoking?

Firstly lets have a look at what cigars are to see if they are any different to cigarette smoking, and any healthier.

The bottom line is that cigars are made from tobacco just like cigarettes are, and tobacco itself is a large part of the problem. The tobacco used in cigars is treated differently than the tobacco used in cigarettes, but it is still tobacco.

The tobacco used in cigars is treated by allowing it to mature for around 12 months and then fermented for up to 6 months to create bacterial and chemical changes that alter the taste of the tobacco. Hence the preference by some people for cigars over cigarettes, they taste different.

However cigars still contain nicotine because they contain tobacco, and that is where the nicotine comes from. So as nicotine is the substance that causes the smoking addiction, cigars are still addictive. In fact one large cigar can contain enough tobacco that, if it were used to make cigarettes instead, could manufacture an entire packet of cigarettes. So smoking one large cigar can be the equivalent of smoking an entire pack of cigarettes.

Cigars still contribute to a wide range of health problems, some a little different to those created by cigarette smoking. Cigars still cost a lot. Cigars can still be addictive.

So, the bottom line is that changing from smoking cigarettes to smoking cigars is not a viable alternative to quitting smoking. The only way to avoid the health and other problems caused by using tobacco is to stop using it, not to change the way you take in your tobacco.

Whether using quit smoking laser therapy is a good way to quit smoking is still up in the air, read our website more and do some more research, but don’t think that changing to cigars, or for that matter a pipe, will avoid the need to quit smoking.
